Overweight and Obesity
Overweight and obesity are complex metabolic, endocrine, psychological disorders and behaviours. Weight loss programs that can deliver the expected results recognise that a number of therapies need to be included in a holistic weight loss program to achieve sustained weight loss, healthy eating habits, a commitment to physical exercise and breaking the cycle of emotional eating.
Weight loss programs are individualised to meet the lifestyle, correct harmful behaviours for health and appropriate fitness goals of the individual. There is no one program for everybody.
Food is used consciously or unconsciously to relieve stress, depression, loneliness, fear, anxiety and disappointment. Food which is called comfort food is used to substitute the negative emotion or experience. Chocolate and ice cream are two such comfort foods.

Weight loss hypnosis
Weight loss hypnosis will help you to lose weight when it is utilise with a holistic Weight Loss Program which includes diet, exercise and counselling therapy. Essentially you will need to explore eating habits and reasons for those times when you turn to food for comfort.
The therapist will explore with you the following:
At what times do you eat? Is it only at mealtime or you eat only when you are hungry?
What makes you stop eating? When you are full and satisfied? Or when the plate is empty?
What do you choose to eat at mealtime or for a snack? Do you choose what is healthy most times?
Other than mealtimes what will cause you to snack or eat when you are not at all hungry?
Hypnosis is a state of deep calm, relaxation and focused concentration. It is actually like being in a trance-like state. Hypnosis is usually done with the help of a hypnotherapist using verbal repetition and mental images which impresses on the sub-conscious mind the need for a positive behaviour change. In this trance-like state you're more responsive to suggestions, including behaviour changes that can help you lose weight. In that relaxed focused state you are told and repeat suggestions such as:
"Eating healthy foods in smaller portions at mealtimes will help me to have more energy, vitality and optimal health". In this way one changes the sabotaging behaviours which contribute to poor eating, habits and behaviours which are revealed in the short questionnaire stated previously.
Weight loss is usually best achieved with diet and exercise. If you've tried diet and exercise but are still struggling to meet your weight-loss goal, talk to your health care provider about weight loss hypnotherapy. Don't rely only on weight-loss hypnosis alone as diet and exercise will give the significant weight loss.
It may take a few sessions with a hypnotherapist to achieve and sustain your weight lost goals.
Tips for succeeding with your weight loss goals
Visualise the healthy body you will achieve. It helps to have images placed strategically to keep you focused on the goal.
Have a list of activities to do when the craving for food is persistent.
Use images to mentally send away the urge to eat. This is combining CBT with self-hypnosis.
Instead of denying yourself foods you love practice portion control.
Do not be hard on yourself when you fall off the wagon. This is so normal when it happens. Just get back on track as soon as you can.
