Among developed nations, Australia ranks as one of the fattest in the world. In fact, the incidence of obesity in Australia has more than doubled in the past 20 years. Without action, the trend will continue and by 2025, close to 80% of all Australian adults and a third of all children will struggle with weight-related problems. It is a frightening health crisis.


On the brighter side, it is also a problem for which we have the information to begin changing. When it comes to weight, modern society makes it easy to gain and hard to lose. Convenience foods full of fat and sugar are everywhere. They’re cheap. They temporarily satisfy a need for comfort, stress relief and instant hunger gratification. The more we eat, the more our bodies seem to want. We lead increasingly hectic lifestyles with modern technology constantly at our fingertips and little time or inclination to get outside and move our bodies. The equation inevitably adds up to high calorie intake and low activity.
